Methodology
What launched means here.
We record when a website first appears live to us. That’s useful evidence. It’s not a claim about the exact moment it launched.
Where the records come from
IL Sites finds candidate domains in public Certificate Transparency logs. Those are the append only records that certificate authorities publish every time they issue an HTTPS certificate, so they’re open for anyone to read and check.
A certificate says a domain exists. It doesn’t say a website does. So every candidate is then fetched and judged against the standard below, and the large majority never get published.
What Israeli means here
IL Sites covers the Israeli domain space: .co.il, .org.il, .net.il, .il. Endings are matched whole, so .co.il matches example.co.il and never example.aco.il.
Endings reserved for government, universities, local authorities, schools and the army, such as .gov.il and .ac.il, aren’t included. They belong to institutions rather than to people launching something new.
An Israeli domain ending tells you about the domain. It isn’t proof of where a website or the people behind it are based.
An observable launch
A domain on its own isn’t a launch. The site has to be open to the public and look ready for real visitors. Parked domains, holding pages and obvious placeholders don’t qualify.
What we look for
- The site is publicly reachable.
- It shows a clear purpose, product, service or body of content.
- It’s more than a parked domain, placeholder or coming soon page.
What the date means
First observed live is the earliest point IL Sites recorded a site meeting the publication standard. A site may have launched before we found it, or changed after that point. We word it this way to keep the record honest about its own precision, and it is not a claim about the exact moment it launched.
Coverage and corrections
IL Sites is an index of public observations. It’s not an official registry, an ownership record or a quality rating. Coverage will have gaps and listings can be wrong. If something needs attention, use the report form on the relevant launch page, or get in touch.
